September Scholastics

Last Sunday was the September Scholastics. Two students from our club went Kevin and Felix.  I (kevin) finished in second with 2.0 points and Felix finished  last with 0.0 points. Unfortunately only four people entered, but hey I still got a prizeTongue out!

Ok here is a problem from the 1990 US open. Its black to move.

Kell Chess Club's website

A website for our club seems like one of the easiest ways to get information on tournaments out to everyone. I am also hoping that we can get this blog as a link on Kell's website. I believe this will bring new members to our club. I will also try to post a chess problem at least twice a week.

Goals for Chess Club this year will be to get almost everyone to become a USCF member, and to have a minimum of 1000 rating.(I don't think that will be too difficult)How would one start? It is quite easy. I would recommend going to a G/45 championship at the Atlanta Chess Center.(atlantachessclub.com) This tournament has a rating cap usually between u1100 and u1300 so u will be facing players around your level. However you must be a USCF member. If you are older than 15 your membership for one year will be $23 and if you are 15 or younger yours will only cost $17(bi monthly Chess Life magazine) The best part about the G/45 champ. is that it is free entry for first timers.

White to move. Post your answer under comments.
